RAVENA — The Ravena Village Board is considering a preliminary budget that is proposing a 2.25 percent tax increase for village residents.
A public hearing held last Tuesday to discuss the budget did not draw a single audience member, but the board kept the meeting open for the customary 20 minutes to ensure the public had the chance to make their voices heard.
The budget for the fiscal year that will end on May 31, 2019, includes a general fund budget of $2,184,684, with an additional $1.066,420 appropriated for the water fund and $490,467 for the sewer fund.
While the budget has yet to be approved, the preliminary figures indicate the village would collect $849,539 in taxes, which would be a 2.25 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year.
That means the tax rate would be $5.11 for the coming year for every $1,000 of the value of a home assessed at $100,000.
The $5.11 tax rate jump is an 11 cent increase over last year, when the rate was an even $5.00.
The only issue discussed by the village board during the public hearing was the salary hike for village employees.
The preliminary budget includes a 1.5 percent increase for all village employees, which does not include elected officials such as the mayor, trustees or village justice — who will not receive any salary increase.
Misuraca proposed the board increase the raise for employees.
“The only change I would make in the budget is a motion to adopt a 3 percent increase for employees, effective this year,” Misuraca said.
Deputy Mayor William Bailey seconded the motion, but the remaining village trustees – Nancy Warner, Mary Ellen Rosato and Linda Muller – voted to keep the increase at 1.5 percent.
The salary increase would only apply to village employees, and does not include elected officials, who have not received a pay hike under the Misuraca administration.
The budget includes compensation for Misuraca at $23,185.20 for the year, with each of the four trustees being paid $10,454.00 annually. Those figures have not seen an increase in more than four years.
Copies of the preliminary budget can be obtained at the Village Clerk’s Office, located at 15 Mountain Rd. in Ravena.
