PRATTSVILLE — Seems like the Christmas season is starting early this year and I love it. Liked the small snow storms. Enjoy what is the best in the season and make light of the rest.
Deer season is just about over. Glen Howard of Beech Ridge got a six pointer, practically out his back door. Another advantage to living in the high country. The Prattsville Diner had a large number of hunters stopping in and that is a good thing. The town seems a little quiet.
Four Legionnaires: Kip Rikard, Johannes Krauss, Bob Gurley and Dana Hommel, and Auxiliary members: Marianne Krauss, Connie Lane, Cathy Martino, Pat Minew, Nancy Orr and Ginny Gurley and volunteer Yvonne Shafer, did their annual Christmas shopping for the hospitalized veterans on Wednesday in Kingston. The day begins with an 8 a.m. departure time and ends with a late afternoon return with very exhausted shoppers. As in years past, the 9th Floor, long term, is full to capacity with 50 veterans in need of some Christmas cheer and our local residents continue to be so very generous that the veterans have their Santa’s Wish List fulfilled.
Glen Bellomy is in touch with friends in Prattsville, even if he looks at the clock wrong and calls at 11 p.m. thinking it was 10 p.m. But he is a good shopper for his fellow veterans at the VA so he is forgiven. We miss Linda and Glen, especially at this time of year. They helped with the VA Christmas Celebration with shopping, wrapping and delivering and visiting with the veterans. Come on home for the holidays.
Gene Brainerd was in Prattsville on Sunday. He was looking for the Gurley family but they were not home so he just visited the Elliott Brainards so not to waste the trip.
Diane Cammer and Debbie Carman were in Kingston Friday. They were leaving the parking lot at Kohl’s and said they were there to have the oil changed in Diane’s car. Didn’t know Kohl’s could change the oil in your car? Cathy Martino, Marianne Krauss and Ginny Gurley also made a personal shopping trip to Kingston. And regardless of what Smyrna Rion says, they were not asked to leave Kingston. While the ladies were gone Bob Gurley had a full house with Charlie Rion, Louie Kizyma and Jane Concato stopping by for a chat. Tammy Robinson was also spotted in Kingston. Kingston is the place to be.
Brainard/Braswell families continue to feel better. Dylan Braswell will be restricted in his activity until the bones knit. Grandpa Elliott is still waiting for test results before he can go out dancing again.
Get well wishes are sent to Ronnie Cline.
The CROP children at Gilboa Conesville CS are offering to help with our communities’ activities. Peggy Cammer was around collecting presents to be wrapped for veterans and CROP pledged to make cards for them as per the season or holiday.
Now is the time to start checking out our local merchants to fill the wishes on your Christmas lists. Most have gifts you can buy outright and if you are not sure if their stock will be just the right thing, buy that all time favorite, a gift certificate.
The American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Prattsville Hotel. They will have a Christmas Buffet at this time to mark the end of their year. All members are invited to join in to celebrate Christmas. They will recess meetings until March 2019.
Send Christmas greetings to SRGT Andrew Rikard, CMR 405, Box 6882, APO AE 09043 and Stanley Sutton Jr., 190 Rte 3, Prattsville, NY 12468. Stanley is based at Ft. Baylee will celebrate her first birthday on Jan.3 in the company of her mom, proud grandparents Tom and Amelia Osborn and doting aunt Nicole.
