HUDSON — City police are searching for a high-risk sex offender who may be in the area.

Police are looking for El-Jalon Thorton, 25, of Hudson, who is wanted on an arrest warrant after he failed to register with the department when he was released from prison Sept. 18, according to a statement from Hudson police.

Investigators believe Thorton is in the area, according to police.

Thorton is 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighs 145 pounds. He is a level 3 sex offender — the highest level — police said.

Thorton was sent to prison after being convicted of second-degree sexual abuse, a class A misdemeanor; Police Chief L. Edward Moore said. Police did not know how long he was in prison, Moore said.

A level 3 sex offender has a high risk of repeat offense and a poses a threat to public safety, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services’ website.

Police have requested anyone with information to call 518-828-3388.
