Police: Man had nearly 2 pounds of marijuana in Coxsackie

COXSACKIE — A Freeport man was arrested Monday after police found he had 1.8 pounds of marijuana on the New York State Thruway in Coxsackie, according to police.

Shanon M. Wilson, 33, of Freeport, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class D felony; and vehicle and traffic violations, according to a statement from New York State Police.

Wilson was traveling on the Thruway at about 10:51 a.m. Monday when state police pulled him over for vehicle and traffic violations, according to police. When police interviewed Wilson, they had probable cause to search his vehicle.

During the search, troopers found Wilson had about 1.8 pounds of marijuana in his possession, according to state police. He was taken into custody, transported and processed at the state police barracks in Albany.

Wilson was arraigned in Coxsackie Town Court and held in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond, according to state police. He is due to return to court 10 a.m. Thursday.
