STOCKPORT — New York State Police have found the driver of a vehicle that went off the road in Stockport early Wednesday.
Police found a smashed car but no driver just after 2 a.m. at 1489 Route 9, state police spokesman Trooper Aaron Hicks said.
Troopers found a 2004 black Honda Accord off the road after it struck a few trees after the crash was reported by a passerby, Hicks said.
Jason D. Murdie, 35, was found by police and ticketed for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident Thursday.
Murdie told police he lost control avoiding a deer, Hicks said. No information was available on why Murdie left the scene, Hicks said.
Crews left the scene at 4 a.m., according to a statement from Stockport Fire Co. No. 1.
Stockport Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 firefighters, state police and the Columbia County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.
