Phyllis (Betty) Elizabeth Helliwell
Betty passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018 at Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Philmont, New York at the age of 87. Born in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of Myrtle Winters and Kenneth W. Ford. Raised by her paternal grandparents, Flossie and Chester Ford, she grew up in Red Rock, where she lived her whole life. She attended the Red Rock School House and graduated from Chatham Central High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Kenneth Ford Lumber Company for 13 years and for Chatham Motors for 17 years. She continued to work for other car dealerships in Hudson and Catskill and became the organist, bookkeeper and thrift shop manager for the Congregational Church in New Lebanon for 12 years. She was the secretary for the Red Rock Cemetery Association for many years, a Ford Family tradition.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, parents and step-mother, Audrey Ford, who she dearly loved.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, John T. Helliwell, who lovingly cared for her for many years. Other survivors include her siblings Noreen Ford, Kenneth Ford, Nancy Ford and Diana Novosel, 11 nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and nephews.
