KINDERHOOK — The Friends of Lindenwald will be hosting an old-fashioned family picnic 12:30-4 p.m. July 15 at the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, 1013 Old Post Road (Route 9H), Kinderhook.
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and chairs or a blanket and set up on the lawn of Lindenwald, the home of the nation’s eighth president.
The Friends will provide free ice cream and lemonade.
The Ghent Band will provide musical entertainment 1-3 p.m., including patriotic numbers.
Historic site staff will offer old-fashioned children’s games and button making, and there will be selfies with Martin Van Buren.
Stop by the Friends table to learn more about the organization and sign up to be included on the e-newsletter list.
The Friends of Lindenwald is also hosting a Martin Van Buren look-alike contest.
Do you look like Martin Van Buren when he was middle-age or older? Do you know someone who does? Look-alike Martin Van Burens, and their families, are invited to the picnic, where members of the Friends will declare winners in several categories. Winners will receive prizes.
