BREWSTER — NYSEG, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc., has restored power to nearly all of the more than 203,000 customers that were impacted by the two winter storms that hit the region over the past week. The storms packed a powerful punch with heavy, wet snow and high winds that caused severe damage to electrical infrastructure through the Northeast. NYSEG crews, contractors, and mutual assistance partners tackled more than 3,000 downed wires and hundreds of broken poles in the hardest hit areas of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Sullivan counties.
Many of the remaining outages are single-customer outages that the company is working to restore by this evening. In a few cases where the customers’ premises was damaged and we are unable to connect to the home or business, the company’s service crews will make repairs to the NYSEG infrastructure and then coordinate with the customer and their electrician as needed.
After all customers have been restored, our team will patrol NYSEG’s service area to inspect our equipment to make further repairs where necessary and remove trees or tree limbs near equipment and infrastructure to strengthen the system for the next weather event. These repairs may cause short, temporary outages in certain locations.
