New charity formed in the Taconic area

COPAKE — The formation of a new charity, Community Christmas Boxes, has been announced in the Taconic area. The sole mission is to provide area families in need with a festive, healthy, hearty meal during

the Holiday season.

We’re grateful to Our Lady of Hope Church, which served as the host of this drive for decades past. Many of the people who were essential to the success at OLH are joining us and we invite anyone interested in serving this community is welcome to join us.

We are currently n the process of forming a new 501-c3 charity. In the meantime, we are indebted to the Roe Jan Food Pantry and the United Methodist Church of Hillsdale for sponsoring us as we begin this adventure. Monetary and Food donations will be gratefully accepted.

Checks should be made out to: Roe Jan Food Pantry. Put “Community Christmas Boxes” in the Memo line.

Check should be sent to: COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS BOXES, P.O. Box 364, Hillsdale NY, 12529. Donations of food are being coordinated by Elwin Moore at 518-965-6931. He will be happy to let you know what foodstuffs are needed.

There are volunteer opportunities as well. The Community Christmas Boxes preparation will be held at The Hillsdale Firehouse, 9387 Route 22, Hillsdale. The schedule is: Dec. 13 at 9 a.m., help prepare the boxes. Dec. 14 at 9 a.m., help is needed for receiving and setting up the food. Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. join the Boys and Girls Scouts, the 4H and the honor society from Taconic Hills as they decorate the boxes with Festive Christmas Spirit. Dec. 15 at 8:30-11 a.m., fill the boxes with food. Snacks will be provided. Dec. 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., be a part of the day and help distribute the food boxes to the families.
