Neal E. Burger 85, passed away after a long illness on January 9, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident of Germantown, NY for over 60 years. Born to Foster and Hattie (Rockefeller) Burger of Red Hook on April 30, 1932. Neal served in the United States Army in the 1950s stationed in Germany.

He graduated from Red Hook Central School, earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Plattsburgh State College and completed graduate work at New Paltz State College. Neal served as the Elementary Principal at Germantown Central School for 32 years. He was proud to have been an Eagle Scout, a former president of the Retired Teachers of Eastern New York. He was an active member of the community having served on the Planning Board, and History Department as well as a member of the Germantown Lions Club.

Neal was the beloved husband of Joan (Benton) for 61 years, devoted Father to Eric (Denise) Burger, Marc (Chris) Burger and Kate (Joe) Buttner. Cherished grandfather to T.J. and Chelsea Buttner, Emily Fleitz and Benton Burger. Survived by sister in law Mary Benton and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive their friends and families on January 13, 2018 to celebrate his life, at the First Dutch Reformed Church in Germantown New York at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern New York 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205 or Community Hospice 47 Liberty Street Catskill New York.
