HUDSON — The Beer Store closed without notice Monday shortly after a liquor store moved in next door.

The former Beer Store, at 40 Green St., closed about a week after Wine and Spirits moved from its former location of 723 Columbia St. into the adjacent Green Street storefront, which used to house Fine Wines and Liquors.

Wine and Spirits is operating out of the former Fine Wines and Liquors store in the street-side section of the building. The Columbia Street store is closed.

“This is a bigger location,” said Everest Kc, who works the counter at Wine and Spirits. “That’s why we moved here.”

The Beer Store shut down suddenly, Kc said.

“We moved in a week ago and they closed Monday,” Kc said. “I don’t know why.”

Mail has built up on the locked doors of the former Beer Store. A hand-written note was placed on the inside of the door that the store is closed until further notice.

The note also tells customers to bring their bottle returns to Beer World at 170 W. Bridge St. in the village of Catskill.

The management for Beer World did not return a call for comment Thursday.
