Mary M. Becker, 80 years old, from Coxsackie, N.Y. passed away early Tuesday morning, July 9th after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born to the late James Steigerwald and Ida Tong Steigerwald on January 14, 1939 in Kingston NY but spent most of her life in Coxsackie, N.Y. Mary was the second sister of four girls-Joan DeCarlo (late), Judith and Linda.

Mary graduated from C-A in 1956. After high school she and her sister Joan worked for the NY Telephone Company in Menands. In 1961 she married the late Walter Becker. Mary and Walter had two children, Lori and Erik. Raising her family was her joy and priority. Later she went back to work at Watson Oil, The Townsman and finally worked as a clerk for the Village of Coxsackie for 10 years. She was the treasurer for many years for the Coxsackie Council on the Arts. She happily retired in 1999 and loved to do nothing. She and her husband went on 16 cruises together; some enjoyed with friends and family. They cruised to the Caribbean, Hawaii and Panama Canal. In retirement they did everything together-going for rides, going out to eat and visiting every new grocery store within a 50 mile radius. They spent 60 wonderful years together. Mary loved to sing and sang in the Second Reformed Church choir with her husband and in the Steuben Glee Club with her sisters. Every Friday she and her sisters along with her best friend, Rosemary Martin loved shopping in Albany, she never came home empty handed. In later years she enjoyed tours of down street Coxsackie and along the river. Whenever you were out and about you’d ask her “How about a tour”, she never said no.

She is survived by her children, Lori and Erik and their spouses Thomas Lanson and Dotty Becker, grandsons, Derik and Hunter Lanson, her sister Judith and brother in law Robert DiPrima and sister Linda and brother in law George Eignor. Along with her nieces and nephews Anthony DeCarlo, Seth DiPrima, Eugene Eignor, Nicole Plank(DiPrima), Stephanie Hart(DiPrima) and George M. Eignor.
