Lexington does her bit in the Great War

A Boy Scout led the Lexington contingent in the parade during the Official Homecoming for the Greene County World War One soldiers and sailors on Oct. 9, 1919 in Catskill. “Lexington Does Her Bit in the Great War” will be the topic at the annual meeting of the Lexington Historical Society at 7 p.m. May 12 at the Lexington Historical Society, 18 Church St., Lexington, with historian Peter Lindemann as the presenter. Twenty-two boys went to war and two died. Orders were solicited for War Savings Stamps and Liberty Bonds, and Red Cross societies were formed. Lindemann will show photos, many not seen in almost a century, of nearly all the World War One soldiers and sailors from Lexington, along with period music.
