Kingston native honored with Legion of Merit Award

OKINAWA, Japan — A 1985 Kingston High School graduate and Kingston native was recently honored with the Legion of Merit Award following his tour with a Naval Task Force.

U.S. Navy Reserve Capt. David S. Rahmer was awarded the Legion of Merit medal by Navy Vice Adm. Joseph P. Aucoin, commander of the Seventh Fleet, following his tour as commanding officer of Navy Reserve Element, Expeditionary Strike Group Seven in Okinawa, Japan.

The Legion of Merit is a military award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The decoration is issued to members of the seven uniformed services of the United States as well as to military and political figures of foreign governments.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1991 from State University of New York Maritime College, Bronx and graduated from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island in 2013, with a Master’s of Arts in National Security Studies.

Rahmer is the son of Arthur and Rosemary Rahmer of Lake Katrine and husband of Jessica Rahmer of Collinsville, Ill.
