Joyce Phillips, 74, of Climax, New York passed away peacefully with her family by her side at The Pines in Catskill after a third battle with cancer.
Joyce was born in Birmingham, England, the daughter of Eileen and Herbert Phillips. Soon after coming to this country, she began her lifelong love of horses. This love lasted until the day she passed, leaving behind her beloved horse, Roy, who still resides at Bluestone Farm, which Joyce managed for years.
Among Joyce’s other passions were gardening, brightening up many a street in Coxsackie, cooking, and making special meals for the people she loved. Above all, she loved her horse and caring for animals of all kinds.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) Cohn (Bill), her brothers Anthony Phillips (Peggy) and Brian Phillips (Sharon), nephew Brent Phillips (Alex) and niece Emmy Phillips.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 3:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Ravena, New York. All friends are invited to come and remember her life with family. At Joyce’s request, everyone is to wear bright colors and come in “barn casual”.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to aid in the continued care of her greatly loved horse, Roy. Please make checks payable to “Bits for Roy, c/o Elizabeth Cohn” at National Bank of Coxsackie, 3-7 Reed Street, PO Box 400, Coxsackie, New York 12051-0400.
