Indians slam Wildcats on the mat

COXSACKIE — The Coxsackie-Athens Indians defended their home mat Thursday night, claiming a 51-28 victory over their rival, the Maple Hill Wildcats, in Patroon Conference wrestling action.

The two teams waged war on the mat and it started with the opening match of the night between Coxsackie-Athens' Nick Christiana and Maple Hill's Josh Donnelly. The two 120 pounders battled to a 6-4 decision in favor of Christiana.

The fastest pin of the evening came in the final match of the night in the 113 pound division. Indians' Kyle Green pinned Wildcats' Thomas Merighe in 28 seconds. Prior to that, Maple Hill's Caleb Svingala held the fastest pin of the night, defeating Eero Fleming in 29 seconds.

Rensselaer 51, Taconic Hills 36

RENSSELAER -- Rensselaer edged out Taconic Hills 51-36 in Patroon Conference varsity wrestling on Thursday night.

In a match filled with forfeits, the quickest pin of the evening came in the 106-pound division as Titans' Shane Fallon downed Isabella Blowers in 1:01.

CATSKILL -- Catskill notched a 56-21 victory over Greenville on Thursday in Patroon Conference varsity wrestling.

Abdul Asif notched the fasted pin of the evening with an 18 second victory over Spartans' Alex Fava.

South Kortright 43, Hunter-Tannersville 30

TANNERSVILLE — A poor shooting night from the field and the free throw line allowed the visiting Rams of South Kortright to escape the Hunter-Tannersville Wildcats Den with a low scoring 43-30 victory Wednesday Night.

In this battle for first place in the league, South Kortright got out to a 16-5 lead after the opening quarter and took a 24-16 advantage into halftime. SK was able to keep the HTC offense in check all night to get the win.

“We just never got on track tonight on offense,” Wildcats coach Chris Glennon said. “Despite the poor shooting and offense we did get the game to 34-26 with four minutes left before again going cold down the stretch. I feel like we wasted a great defensive effort tonight. When you can hold SK to 43 points you have to capitalize on that.”

Hunter’s Richard Kenneally had a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss. Guard Jason McDevitt contributed nine points.

Austin Lamport scored a team-high 14 points for SK.

HTC moves to 6-4 on the year and 2-1 in the league. The Wildcats play host to Stamford tonight with a 7 p.m. tip.

Hudson 3, Germantown 1

GERMANTOWN -- Hudson picked up a 3-1 victory over Germantown on the road Thursday night in Patroon Conference varsity volleyball.

Set scores were 25-21, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-20.

"We played pretty well tonight, but we had too many errors to pull out the win," Germantown coach Dave Comesanas said. "Our poor serving and passing errors gave Hudson the advantage."

Clippers' Jared WYnkoop had eight kills, two aces and five digs; Triston Newman one ace and three digs; Jeremy Cosenza five kills, 25 assists, three aces, three digs and one block; Riley Griffin 11 kills, one assist, one ace, three digs and two blocks; Nick Comesanas two kills, one ace and two blocks; Chris Diamanti seven kills, two assists, one dig and one block; Charles Scalia one assist and three digs; and Anthony 'Kong' SMith five kills and three blocks.

Germantown (-5) hosts Taconic Hills on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Ichabod Crane 3, Berlin 2

BERLIN -- Ichabod Crane edged out Berlin 3-2 in Patroon Conference varsity volleyball on Thursday night.

Set scores were 25-18, 27-25, 19-25, 23-25 and 15-7.

"Berlin had no quit tonight. I was very impressed how they continued to fight," ICC coach Sean Connors said. "We need to play more consistent volleyball."

Riders' Harrison Puckett had 18 assists, six aces and four kills; Donte Northrup three kills; JanKarl Galia nine kills and two aces; Brody Chandler three aces and two kills; James Konderwich three kills and two blocks; Jake Siter five kills and two aces; and Jarred Cook three assists and one ace.

ICC (6-4) plays at Catskill on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Chatham 3, Greenville 0

CHATHAM -- Chatham blanked Greenville 3-0 in Patroon Conference varsity volleyball Thursday.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-19.

Panthers' Ryan Alderdice had 12 kills and five blocks; Garner Boshart 10 service points and three aces; Dylan Madsen eight service points, four aces, 15 assists and seven blocks; and Hunter Sheriff four service points, four aces, 10 kills and five blocks.


Catskill 4, Coxsackie-Athens 1

CATSKILL — Kiora Christiana rolled a 234-598 to spark Catskill to a 4-1 victory over Coxsackie-Athens, 4-1, in Thursday’s Patroon Conference bowling match at Hoe Bowl Lanes.

Cassie Abel hit a 215-583 and Scott Corrado had a 198-545 for the Cats, who had a total pinfall of 3,020.

Michael Taber spun games of 228, 216 and 206 for a 650 triple. Devyn Bagley had a 189-532 and Jamryon Harris a 174-487.

Coxsackie-athens had a total pinfall of 2,817.

Catskill (7-0, 32-3 points) hosts Rensselaer in a make-up match on Tuesday at Hoe Bowl Lanes.

Chatham 5, Taconic Hills 0

EAST GREENBUSH -- Chatham blanked Taconic Hills 5-0 in Patroon Conference varsity bowling Thursday.

The Panthers held a total pinfall advantage of 2,702-2,123.

Chatham's Jensen Howard led the way with a 187-547. Andrew Duso added a 187-534 and Matt Campbell chipped in with a 176-482.

For TH, Hannah Barlow shot a 159-444 while Darrel Henderson bowled a 140-407.

Cairo-Durham 4, Rensselaer 1

CATSKILL -- Cairo-Durham hosted Rensselaer in a Patroon Conference varsity bowling match Thursday and came away with a 4-1 victory.

The Mustangs were led by Chris Morse with a 239-575 and Phil Decker with a 540 series.

Nick Karlquist shot a 448 series and Andrew Deere had a 443 for the Rams.

C-D heads to Boulevard Bowl today to compete in the Schenectady New Year's Bowling Invitational.
