VALATIE – Ama Boham, a senior at Ichabod Crane High School, is excited to announce her intention to continue her academic and athletic career at Cornell University, an Ivy League institution, and compete in track and field at the Division I level.
Ama has been an important part of the girls track team in her four years at Ichabod Crane, setting multiple records and being named a team captain the last two seasons. She has qualified for the State Championship in all three years, coming in 4th as a freshman, and winning the NYSPHSAA Division 2 State Championship in 100-meter hurdles each of the last two years.
Ama has been the team MVP for three years, named a Times Union All-Star, and even having a NYS Senate Resolution passed in her honor by Senator Kathy Marchione.
While Ama's athletic career has been unmatched, her academic career is even stronger. Ama will be the Class of 2019 Valedictorian at Ichabod Crane with a 102 GPA. She did this while involved as a peer tutor, the treasurer of the Class of 2019, Interact Club, and National Honor Society, as well as the co-founder and co president of the Model UN Club.
Ama wishes to convey a special thanks to her teammates, who have given remarkable support and love throughout her athletic career. She also thanks all of her coaches and teachers at Ichabod Crane. In particular, Patrick Sanger, her incredibly supportive head coach, teacher, and fellow Marvel enthusiast, and Lisa Bodratti, her hurdling coach who she credits with every hurdling success she has ever had. Ama also thanks her parents, Eric and Elizabeth, and brother Tismark who have always given boundless encouragement and advice throughout her time at Ichabod Crane.
