LATHAM — The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced Monday that SUNY Cobleskill sophomore Chris Gardener of Hudson, has been named the league’s Men’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week.
The sophomore forward scored a pair of goals for the Fighting Tigers over the weekend at the Utica College Tournament as Cobleskill defeated the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz 2-0 on Saturday in the opener.
The Hudson High graduate then scored on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute of play on Sunday versus the host Pioneers of Utica College in a game that ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie.
According to Fighting Tiger Head Coach Joseph Machado, Gardener’s development has been a major factor in the team’s opening 2-1-1 overall record.
“Chris played an important role on our team’s success this weekend. Not only was he constantly making attacks on offense; he was also active on defense which led to a number of offensive opportunities for us throughout the tournament.”
In four appearances this season the Hudson High School alumnus has scored three goals for a total of six points on the year including, a game winning goal and a converted penalty kick.
