The Hudson Veterans Day Committee, along with Columbia County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1314, Hudson American Legion Post 184 and the Columbia County Korean War Veterans and I would like to thank all who participated and attended the Veterans Day Ceremonies held in the City of Hudson on Nov. 11.
We would like to thank our guest speaker, New York State Police Captain Kathryne Rohde and Hudson Mayor Rick Rector. We would like to thank the Hudson High School Band and Band Director Scott Volsted, for the patriotic music they played, Scott, who played “To the Colors” at 7th Street Park, Devin Middleton who played “Call to Assembly” and along with Neil Mingua, played “Taps” at the Court House Park, along with the Hudson American Legion Post 184 Rifle Squad providing the rifle salute. Rabbi Daniel Fried of the Congregation Anshe-Emeth for the Invocation, Jean LaPorta, Regents Hendrick Hudson Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for the laying of the wreath. Thanks to Ed Coons, John Neary, Terry Vogel, Gary Wallace, Jack Hallenbeck and Randy Staats for the reading of the names of the 123 Columbia County Veterans who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy today.
Thanks to the Parade participants, which included the Renegade Pigs Motor Cycle Club, Hoyt’s Drum Corps, Veteran and Veterans Organizations Color Guards, Columbia County Sheriffs Color Guard, New York State Police Color Guard, Columbia County VFW Post 1314 Auxiliary, Hudson American Legion Post 184 Float, Hudson Cub Scout Troop 102, Hudson Boy Scout Troop 102, Copake Cub Scout Pack 130, Boy Scout Troop 752, Jeep participant Vince Wallace, the Columbia County DAV Van Driver Steve Martin, the Hudson Fire Police, J.W. Edmonds Hose Company #1, H.W. Roger Hose Company #2, C.H. Evans Hook & Ladder Company #5, Hoysradt Hose Company #8, the Hudson Police Department, and all the Hudson City Officials and Hudson Aldermen who attended the event, Vince Grimaldi Jr. for setting up the sound system and handing out the programs and Columbia-Greene Community College Audio Visual Director, Carl Nabosny for the use of the sound system.
Thanks to City of Hudson Department of Public Works Commissioner James Folz and his crew, along with Columbia County Department of Public Works Mark Beaumont for the work they did in the preparation and grooming of the grounds.
This event would not have been a success without the promotion provided by Bill Williams of 98.5 The Cat, Mid-Hudson Cable, the Columbia Paper, the Register-Star, SF Communications, and Questar III. We would like to give a very special thanks to Jill Wishon and the Hudson Salvation Army Staff for preparing and serving a wonderful meal to all, Pastor Winston Bath of St. Mary’s Holy Trinity Parrish for the use of their hall where the meal was served. The Veterans Day Parade and Service would not have been a success not for the Committee who worked hard putting it together. I would like to thank Committee members Randy Staats, Terry Vogel, Carmen “Turtle” Torchia, Chelsea Torchia, Ed Coons, Gary Wallace and Vince Grimaldi Sr.
And last but not least, a very special thanks to those people who took the time out of their day to attend this ceremony to honor and thank the Men and Women who have served and who are presently serving in our Nation’s Military. God Bless You.
