ELMIRA — After guiding the Elmira College women’s soccer team to back-to-back wins this past week, sophomore forward Taylor Hanson was recognized by the Empire 8 Conference as the Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
The Chatham native contributed four goals to help Elmira’s attack catch fire last week, as EC outscored its opponents 11-1.
In a 7-1 victory over Wells, Hanson tallied her first career hat trick, pouring in all three of her goals in the second half against the Express. After slipping behind 1-0, the Soaring Eagles scored seven unanswered goals to win the contest, with Hanson finding the back of the net in the 57th, 69th and 74th minutes.
Her three-goal outing against Wells marked the first hat trick by a Soaring Eagle since Mollie Hamilton tallied three goals against Lycoming in a 4-0 win during the 2013 season.
Hanson followed up that performance by grabbing her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 4-0 triumph over SUNY Cobleskill.
The former Lady Panther received a pass from Lily Kronick in the 66th minute before beating her defender one-on-one and rifling a shot into the far corner to seal the victory for the Purple and Gold.
Following her efforts in front of goal this past week, Hanson currently ranks third in the Empire 8 in both points (10) and goals (5).
