VALATIE — As the countdown to the festive season begins, community members are invited to get into the holiday spirit by attending a winter wonderland celebration 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell, 3230 Church St, Valatie.

The free event, which will be held in the community room, will include games for children of all ages hosted by the ENY Blackhawks little league team; photos with Santa & Mrs. Clause; holiday-themed crafts; egg nog, hot cocoa and desserts; mylar balloons and goodies (while supplies last); caricature artist Phil Singer; and, DJ Jack Bogarski spinning holiday favorites.

“We’re part of the community and are excited to share some holiday cheer with our neighbors,” said Bridget Delcoure, director of recreation, The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Barnwell. “We’d also like to use the event to give back to the region’s less fortunate. We’ll have a donation box on site to collect scarves, gloves, mittens and hats for Columbia Opportunities, which serves low-income individuals and families of all ages in Columbia County.”

Popular therapy pigs, Bacon Bits, Albert EinSwine and Tammy Swinette, will also be on hand in their best holiday attire. The piggies, who are monthly visitors to all six of the facility’s units, love eating carrots and celery and are generous with their kisses.
