At a Glance: Early high school soccer leaders

The 2018 soccer season has started and out of the gate the competition and level of play has been at a high.

The Greenville Lady Spartans and Catskill Lady Cats opened the season and battled to a 1-0 game in favor of the Cats. On the boys side, the Taconic Hills Titans, after posting a win-less season in 2017, stunned Maple Hill in a 2-1 game and the Catskill Cats are proving last year was not an abherration, starting 2-0 and holding a win over Greenville.

As for individual performances, Maple Hill’s Alayna Fletcher started the season with a five-goal performance over Coxsackie-Athens, yet after week one, Catskill’s Maci Mosher continues to prove her dominance, with six goals, including a hat trick against Berlin.

On the boy’s side, Catskill’s Kymani Rhoden and Taconic Hill’s Kolby Clegg have taken their game to another level this season, leading their teams in goals, however, it’s been the play of Greenville’s Bergen Criswell that’s making waves through week one.

After years behind top-level scoring threats in Paul Mitchell and Cole Ackerman, it’s now Criswell’s team and he’s not shying away, leading the Spartans in scoring through three games.

After week one, Criswell leads all boy’s players in goals with seven, followed by Rhoden and Clegg tied with four. On the girl’s side, Mosher leads the way with six goals, followed by Fletcher and three players tied with three.

From the top goal scorers to the top distributors and on both sides, several players are tied atop the leader board with two assists.

On the boy’s side six players, are tied with two assists.

Due to their dominance so far, Criswell and Mosher sit atop of the leaderboard in points, though Mosher only holds a slim two-point lead over Maple Hill’s Fletcher. As for Criswell, he holds a favorable seven-point lead so far over Rhoden and Clegg

Though the season is still young, Catskill is in first-place in both the boys and girls standings. The Lady Cats, Lady Panthers, and Lady Wildcats are the last of the unbeatens for the girl’s. On the boy’s side, Catskill is the only unbeaten remaining.
