At a Glance: Early high school soccer leaders

The 2018 soccer season has started and out of the gate the competition and level of play has been at a high.

The Greenville Lady Spartans and Catskill Lady Cats opened the season and battled to a 1-0 game in favor of the Cats. On the boys side, the Taconic Hills Titans, after posting a win-less season in 2017, stunned Maple Hill in a 2-1 game and the Catskill Cats are proving last year was not an abherration, starting 2-0 and holding a win over Greenville.

As for individual performances, Maple Hill’s Alayna Fletcher started the season with a five-goal performance over Coxsackie-Athens, yet after week one, Catskill’s Maci Mosher continues to prove her dominance, with six goals, including a hat trick against Berlin.

On the boy’s side, Catskill’s Kymani Rhoden and Taconic Hill’s Kolby Clegg have taken their game to another level this season, leading their teams in goals, however, it’s been the play of Greenville’s Bergen Criswell that’s making waves through week one.

After years behind top-level scoring threats in Paul Mitchell and Cole Ackerman, it’s now Criswell’s team and he’s not shying away, leading the Spartans in scoring through three games.
