To the editor:
This year, the holiday gift I’d most like to give my children is a livable world. An urgent area of need in this regard is combating climate change, and its devastating impacts. We have all seen how wildfires out West, flooding from extreme rainfall, and other climate-related disasters are already becoming far too common.
Please urge your Congressperson to support the recently introduced Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which would place a steadily rising fee on carbon pollution and return all revenue to households equally. This bill: is a market-based approach with bipartisan sponsorship and support, is expected to reduce carbon emissions in the U.S. by 33 percent over the next 10 years, will put money in people’s pockets (the entire carbon fee, minus admin costs, will be distributed back to all Americans, monthly, to spend as they see fit), and is good for business and will create jobs (2.1 million new jobs are expected thanks to growth in the clean energy sector).
In addition, please go online to Citizens’ Climate Lobby and join (it’s free), to be kept in the loop on what is happening with this bill and what else you can do to support a livable world.
It’s time to set aside partisan differences and, for the good of our nation and the world, start addressing the threat of climate change by enacting the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act in the next Congress.
