George Carl Alfonsin, age 59, of Ravena, died Thursday, November 16, 2017. George was born August 17, 1958 in Catskill. He was the son of the late William and Katherine (Carl) Alfonsin. George was a graduate of Catskill High School, Class of 1976. He served in the United States Air Force from 1977 to 1983 as a Staff Sergeant, continuing a family tradition of military service.

George was a skilled welder and artist. He was known for his restoration of antique cars and trucks, his unique motorcycle art, sketches, airbrushing and his custom signs. Much of his art can be seen around town and on his website, When George wasn’t working, he loved reeling in catfish from the Hudson River and riding his motorcycle all over the Northeast. He also enjoyed multiple trips to the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, a celebration for biking enthusiasts.

George is survived by his wife, Sharon (Sloat) Alfonsin of Ravena; a sister, Barbara (Alfonsin) O’Connell of Voorhees, NJ, and her husband, James; a brother, William C. Alfonsin of Acworth, GA, and his wife, Susan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.

There are no calling hours. Private graveside services in the Town of Catskill Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI).

I love you George! You truly were a unique person with a heart of gold. To say "I will miss you" is a huge understatement. Your light will shine brightly through me for eternity. Our bond was a very special one that I always cherished and will continue to do so. Forever in my heart. Until we meet again. Godspeed my brother-in-law. Peace no longer eludes you.
To George's family: My deepest condolences on your loss.

I will miss you George. Your willingness to do for me and others will not be forgotten. R.I.P. Brother.
I am at a lost for words to explain the feelings that I have with your passing. All I hope for is for your spirit and soul to now be at peace. You had family and friends here on this earth that loved you. We will truly miss you. You may be no longer on this earth but you will always be in my heart and memories.
