Former ICC standout Phippen earns two awards

POUGHKEEPSIE – Freshman Calista Phippen of the Marist softball team earned two awards from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Tuesday. Phippen was honored as both MAAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week.

The 2018 Ichabod Crane graduate was dominant in her two outings last week. For the week, she went 2-0 with 0.00 ERA. In 16 innings, she struck out 24, and allowed just six hits, eight walks, and one unearned run.
Against Bryant on March 8, Phippen struck out 16 and allowed three hits in nine innings as Marist earned a 3-1 victory over Bryant. The 16 strikeouts tied the fifth highest total in the NCAA this season. Two days later against Youngstown State, Phippen had her first career shutout, a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.
On the season, Phippen is 4-0 with a 1.38 earned run average. She has 37 strikeouts in 30.1 innings, and has allowed just 22 hits as the opposition is hitting .204 against her.
