Fitzmaurice named first Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week

Following a 3-1 week in the circle in her first collegiate appearances, freshman pitcher Ava Fitzmaurice, a 2018 graduate of Greenville High School, has been named the first Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the 2019 season.

 Fitzmaurice helped lead the Chargers to a 3-2 weekend at the Snowbird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach. In her first collegiate start against Clarion on Friday, Fitzmaurice threw a complete game to earn her first win as a Charger. She allowed one run and gave up just six hits while striking out four and walking one batter. In the second game on Friday, she came in as relief in the third inning. She held Felician to one run and struck out three over 2.2 innings pitched, recording her second win. 

 Fitzmaurice suffered just one loss this weekend against Millersville, but pitched another complete game. She allowed two runs in the second inning but held Millersville scoreless for the remainder of the game. She struck out three and gave up just four hits. 

 Closing out the weekend against Slippery Rock on Sunday, Fitzmaurice earned her third win where she allowed just one run over five innings. She faced 18 batters, gave up just four hits and recorded a career-best five strikeouts.
