Emerich George Amrhein, age 63, of Catskill, died suddenly, Sunday, October 6, 2019 at home. Emerich was born November 25, 1955 in Manhattan, NYC, the son of the late Emil and Elizabeth (Czapary) Amrhein.
Emerich was employed as an Engineer and IT Manager for the NYS Department of Transportation in Poughkeepsie prior to his retirement. He was an aerospace enthusiast who enjoyed watching spaceshot launches from Cape Canaveral. He recently had an opportunity to meet his Space Heroes, Astronauts Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin. Emerich enjoyed cycling, aviation, movies, music, travel, Disney World, racecars, motorcycles, fishing, hiking and being outdoors in general. He was the most pleasant, generous and gregarious person who enjoyed being with and spending time with family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marianne B. Amrhein on January 24, 2005. Emerich is survived by two sisters, Eva Amrhein (Chris Membreno) of NYC, Eleanor (Stephen) Ludwig of Manlius; brothers-in-law, Joseph Los, and David (Nina) Los; an aunt, Theresa Czapary; and many godchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call 9-11 AM Saturday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. A Memorial Funeral service will follow 11 AM Saturday with Fr. Steve Matthews officiating.
