RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — Snow may still be in the forecast, but the RCS softball team is already gearing up for a new season.

Despite pockets of snow still on the nearby grass — and more in the forecast in the coming days — the team could be found in the high school parking lot last week getting in its first couple of practices of the season.

Athletes were tossing the ball back and forth to warm up in the hope of soon being able to get on the diamond.

The team’s first scrimmages are scheduled to begin next week in preparation for the start of the season.

On Tuesday, March 20, the JV softball team will have an away scrimmage against Colonie Central, beginning at 4:15 p.m.

Two days later, on Thursday, March 22, it will be the varsity team’s turn as they will face off against Taconic Hills in their first scrimmage of the season.

The varsity team’s season will begin on Wednesday, April 4, in a home game against Academy of the Holy Names at 4:15 p.m.

Meanwhile the boys varsity baseball team will open its season on Thursday, March 29 at 4:15 p.m. at Bethlehem. The boys JV team will also open its season the same day, also against Bethlehem.
