Coxsackie-Athens holds off Germantown

December 6, 2018 12:00 am

GERMANTOWN – The Coxsackie Athens boys basketball team earned a 62-58 non-league road victory over  Germantown on Thursday.

“It was very good; good effort by both sides,” Coxsackie-Athens coach Tyrone Coleman said. “They are a tough team, but we came and we finished it.”

Coxsackie-Athens came out aggressive in the first quarter, thanks to Killian Schrader putting up 10 of his 15 game points. Players who also contributed in the first for C-A included Gil Bell with 4, Josh Kiefer with a 3-pointer and Aiden Boehm with 2.

Bell stood out in the fourth quarter by applying quick offensive scoring, putting up eight of CA’s 14 points over the final eight minutes.

“Gil, he is just a hustler and puts it all on the floor every night,” Coleman said “We (Coxsackie Athens) can go far,”

Germantown did not lack hustle during the game and was nipping at the heels of C-A throughout the second half. Bryan Bathrick put the team on his back and scored 16 of the 19 points for Germantown in the first quarter, including four 3-pointers. Bathrick’s fifth 3-pointer would come in the third quarter.

Robbie Eaton would also be productive beyond the arc, putting up three 3-pointers, one in each of the last three quarters. Eaton played an aggressive fourth quarter by putting up 7 of 14 points.

“We just want to settle down, especially on the turnovers,” Coleman said. “We just have to slow everything down, be patient.”

"We played well tonight," Hudson coach Shawn Briscoe said. "We got off to a good start and were able to control the game pretty much from start to finish. I would like to see the guys play with a little more sense of urgency and more hunger at times, but I like how we are playing right now. We got big games offensively from Lavon and Dayquan. They both were able to finish really well around the basket as well as kick the ball out when we needed to our shooters.
