To the editor:
We at Community Action are gearing up for the holidays! The “Here Comes Christmas” Program, through your generosity and of those like you, will allow us to serve hundreds of Greene County children this year who might otherwise miss out on the magic of the season. We so very much appreciate our community’s support in our efforts!
As always, we are reaching out to area businesses, civic groups, medical practices, office staff, anyone we can think of that might have the ability to help us accommodate the children in our community. We are asking you, our partners in the community, to adopt a family in need. As done previously, we will identify the families to benefit from this program, and obtain the ages, sex, clothing sizes, of the children in the household, as well as interests and “wish lists” and pass them on to the participating donors. We are asking the participants to purchase one age appropriate toy, one pair of warm pajamas, and perhaps one new outfit, for each child registered. Perhaps a gift for the parents could also be included, whether a gift card to a grocery store, or a food basket of some sort. We are also asking that you share this letter with anyone else who may be able to help us in or efforts, and ask them to contact us as well.
We appreciate the fact that many of us are on tight budgets already, and it’s difficult to provide for our own. However, if an entire office staff or department adopted one family, perhaps each person would only need to purchase one additional item. If a person has the means to do more, what a wonderful way to share with others, and to teach community and charity to your own children. One might even adopt a family in the name of that impossible to shop for, one who has everything, friend or family member! If you want to help but cannot financially, perhaps you could volunteer one day a week to help sort and organize incoming/outgoing gifts!
If you are able to assist with this effort, please call by Nov. 23. This will allow us to anticipate how many families we can accommodate, and give us time to prepare our volunteers. As we are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, any contribution you make is tax deductible.
If you would like to help but shopping is not “your thing”, one might also make a check out to Community Action of Greene County, Inc. and note whether you would like your donation to be applied to the Christmas program or our discretionary fund. This fund allows us to meet the needs of families throughout the year, with such requests as for emergency car repairs, food, rental arrears, and assistance with heating fuel or propane. Again, all donations are tax deductible.
Thank you in advance for assisting us in carrying out our mission of “Creating Opportunities, Fighting Poverty, Changing Lives.” Thank you in advance for making this a Merry Christmas for someone less fortunate. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at 518-943-9205.
