CLAVERACK — Peter Budelman, President of Columbia Golf & Country Club, announced this week the appointment of Evan Silkworth as the head golf professional for the 2018 season.
A Poughkeepsie native, Silkworth is a graduate of the College of Saint Rose where he played golf and starred on his team.
Silkworth taught Junior High School English from 2006-13 in Brooklyn before pusuing his dream and returning to the golf industry. In 2009, he began giving golf instruction at Marine Park Golf Club in Brooklyn and in 2013 he was named its head golf professional.
In 2015, Silkworth relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida to become assistant golf professional at PGA Golf Club and was quickly promoted to outside operations manager and tournament director.
“In addition to proven teaching skills, Silkworth’s significant management experience running the full range of golf operations will be a great asset to CG&CC,” Budelman said. “We couldn’t be more delighted that he and his wife, Elisabeth, are ‘coming home’ to the Hudson Valley.”
Silkworth added, “I am thrilled to be coming to Columbia Golf & Country Club. The members I have already met have been extremely welcoming, and there are a lot of exciting things on tap for 2018. I can’t wait for Spring to come so we can get our golf season and tournament schedule underway. It is exceptionally exciting to join the family at CG&CC as the Club prepares to celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2019. The Club is rich with great heritage and history, including the fact that Columbia was the great Gene Sarazen’s home club.”
