BETHLEHEM — The Chatham Lady Panthers wrapped up an undefeated season by knocking off Schoharie 7-0 to win the Section II, Class C/D varsity girls tennis championship on Wednesday.
“A very entertaining match between two excellent Class C schools. I was impressed by the determination of my players today,” Chatham coach Michael Griggs said. “Margot Schassler, Lily Nowak and Sydney Newton/Sydney Putnam all played excellent three-set matches. Both teams displayed a tremendous amount of skills and passion throughout.”
With the win, Chatham closes its season at 16-0.
“I am really proud of these girls,” Griggs said. “They came into the season ready to go and played a really dominant style of tennis as a whole. Our doubles teams communicated well with each other and our seniors showed tremendous leadership. I’m really happy our seniors can leave as champions. Despite losing these seniors, I am happy that we have a large team of kids eager to play for next season.”
Included in the group of young stars coming back next year is Jahnaya Armstrong — a seventh grader who won the Patroon Conference singles tournament last week.
