Chatham clips Taconic Hills to jumpstart girls soccer season

CRARYVILLE — Julia Rose’s goal in the 77th minute of play gave Chatham a 1-0 victory over Taconic Hills in Thursday’s Patroon Conference girls soccer game.

Rose took a pass from Abby Hoag and launched a shot that sailed over the head of Taconic Hills goaltender Julianna Carrasquillo with just 2:44 remaining in regulation.

The Panthers took eight shots on goal and had six corner kicks.


Taconic Hills had just two shots and two corners

Brooke-Lyn Doyle recorded the shutout in goal for the Panthers, collecting three saves.

Carrasquillo stopped five shots for the Titans. 

Chatham returns to action today when it host Coxsackie-Athens at 4 p.m. Taconic Hills visits Maple Hill on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Catskill 1, Greenville 0

GREENVILLE -- In a battle between two of the top teams in the Patroon Conference, it was the Catskill Lady Cats coming away with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Greenville Lady Spartans Thursday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Maci Mosher scored an unassisted goal 4:39 into the game to seal Catskill's victory.

Lady Cats keeper Laura Christman had seven saves in net and Greenville keeper Kasey Pfleging had eight.

Catskill (1-0) travels to take on Cairo-Durham in a battle between last year's co-champions. Greenville (1-1, 1-1 Patroon) travels to Chatham on Wednesday at 4;15 p.m.

Maple Hill 7, Coxsackie-Athens 0

COXSACKIE — Maple Hill blanked Coxsackie-Athens 7-0 on Thursday in the Patroon Conference girls varsity soccer opener.

Alayna Fletcher led the way with five goals, Mariela Hirschoff added a goal and an assist, Paige Padilla contributed a goal, and Meghan Bennett finished with an assist.

Maple Hill keeper Hannah Brewer finished with 12 and Coxsackie-Athens keeper Jessica Steinke finished with 18.

Maple Hill moves to 1-0 while Coxsackie-Athens falls to 0-1.

COLONIAL GIRLS SOCCER


Mohonasen 2, Ichabod Crane 0


MOHONASEN — Despite a strong showing, the Mohonasen Lady Warriors were too much for the Ichabod Crane Lady Riders, capturing a 2-0 victory on Thursday in Colonial girls soccer action.
After 28 minutes of strong defensive play by Ichabod Crane, Mohonasen finally broke through with a goal by Olivia Raucci, giving Mohonasen a 1-0 leading heading into halftime.
With 18 minutes remaining, Mohonasen tacked on an insurance goal by Isabella O’Clair to capture the 2-0 victory.
Ichabod Crane (0-2) host Lansingburgh on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
 

PATROON BOYS SOCCER

Hudson 4, Cairo-Durham 3 (OT)

CAIRO -- In their second consecutive overtime game, the Hudson Bluehawks came away with the victory with a goal from Asam Algahim in the second overtime period to clinch a 4-3 victory over the Cairo-Durham Mustangs Thursday afternoon.

The Mustangs got on the board first against the Bluehawks with a goal by Corbin Riverburgh, assisted by Armando Salvatore. 

Hudson answered with goals from Rukon Hussain and Rahim Wali to take a 2-1 lead.

The Mustangs entered the half with a 3-2 lead thanks to another goal by Rivenburgh and an unassisted goal by Diego Rivera.

Hudson was able to tie the game in the second half to send it into overtime where Maraz Hossain found Algahim for the game-winner.

Despite the win, Hudson was outshot 13-10 by Cairo-Durham. Hudson keeper Kasey Moore recorded six saves while freshman keeper Robert Lampman had three

Hudson (1-1) hosts Coxsackie-Athens while Cairo-Durham (0-1)  travels to Catskill on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.

Catskill 2, Greenville 1

GREENVILLE — The Catskill Cats continue to prove last season was not a fluke, with a 2-1 victory over Greenville on Thursday in Patroon Conference soccer action.

The Spartans got on the board first with a score from Bergen Criswell, but Catskill answered with a goal by Kymani Rhoden after Iain Alexander found him on a cross.

Tied 1-1 headed into the second half, Jeremy Bulich booted a corner into the box and Alexander booted it home for the game-winning goal.

With under three minutes to play, a hand ball was called on Catskill in the box, awarding Greenville a penalty kick to tie the game, but keeper Andrew Tran made a game-sealing save to give Catskill the 2-1 victory.

Catskill (2-0) hosts Cairo-Durham while Greenville (0-1) hosts Chatham on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.

Taconic Hills 7, Chatham 0


CHATHAM — Taconic Hills blanked Chatham 7-0 on Thursday in Patroon Conference soccer action.
Kolby Clegg scored two goals and newcomers Chris and Phillip Davis each added two goals, Chris Davis also contributed an assist. Guillermo Menendez capped the scoring with a goal and Teagan Campion-Pratt provided two assists in the win.
Taconic Hills (1-0) hosts Maple Hill while Chatham (0-1) travels to Greenville on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
 

COLONIAL BOYS SOCCER

Ichabod Crane 3, Mohonasen 0

VALATIE — The Ichabod Crane Riders opened their season with bang, blanking Colonial Council newcomer Mohonasen 3-0 on Thursday in Colonial Council soccer action.
The Riders and Warriors entered were in a d deadlock for the duration of the half despite Crane having several scoring opportunities. However, senior forward Giovanni Gomez broke the tie when he found freshman forward Joe Desmonie, who sent a perfect thru ball to Anthony Carlucci who booted it home for the goal giving the Riders a 1-0 halftime lead.
Crane came out of the half with more tempo and saw Gomez send a shot at the Mohonasen keeper that was saved, but brother Edgar Gomez was there for the rebound and found the back of the net giving the Riders a 2-0 lead.
The Riders shut the door on Mohonasen with Carlucci’s second goal of the game, giving Crane a 3-0 victory.
Riders keeper Spencer Bates recorded 11 saves in net.
Ichabod Crane (1-0) travels to Lansingburgh on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

PATROON TENNIS

Chatham 7, Hudson 0

CHATHAM —Chatham shutout Hudson 7-0 on Thursday in Patroon Conference tennis action.

Chatham improves to 3-0 while Hudson falls to 0-2.

Maple Hill improves to 4-0, while Cairo-Durham falls to 1-1.

Maple Hill 12, Coxsackie-Athens 0

CASTLETON — Maple Hill cruised to a 12-0 victory over Coxsackie-Athens on Thursday in Patroon Conference varsity golf.

Wildcats’ John Russell shot a 40 on the par 37 Pheasant Hollow Golf Course to obtain his first sectional score of the year.

MH improves to 2-0 on the year as C-A falls to 0-1.

CAIRO —Catskill edged Cairo-Durham 13-11 on Thursday in Patroon Conference varsity golf action. 

Rickey Edwards led the way for Catskill shooting a match-low 54.

For Cairo-Durham, Josh Matteson shot a team-low 59.
