COXSACKIE — Coxsackie-Athens scored a goal barely after the opening whistle and held on to defeat Cairo-Durham 3-0 in Patroon Conference varsity girls soccer action Thursday.
Little more than a minute into the game Anya Josberger sent a direct kick off the cross bar which Maeve Rositzke recovered and sent into the back of the net to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.
Cairo-Durham dominated possession the rest of the first half, but couldn’t convert, heading into halftime down 1-0.
At the break, C-D held a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Coxsackie-Athens was able to increase its lead in the second half when Josberger scored with 14:44 remaining in the game. Allie Donovan capped the scoring, sending home a header off a direct kick from Josberger that ricocheted off a C-D defender.
In total, Cairo-Durham outshot C-A 11-5. In the net, Lady Indians keeper Jess Steinke had 12 saves and C-D keeper Amber Powell had one.
Chatham 10, Hudson 0
The Lady Panthers offense was led by Caroline Paolucci with four goals and an assist, Abby Hoag added two goals, and Sophia Martino, Lexi Mickle, Haley Sherman, and Gabby Fisher each chipped in goals. Brooke-Lyn Doyle, Julia Rose, and Kadah Clanton each provided an assist.
The Lady Spartans were led by Meghan Misuraca with two goals and assist, Alexis Caprio and Morgan Whitbeck chipped in goals, and Kaitlyn Silk and Brooke O'Keefe each finished with an assist.
Maple Hill's lone goal came off a direct kick by Mariella Hirschoff.

Gilboa 1, Hunter-Tannersville 0
HUNTER — Josh Merwin's game-winning goal in the second half gave Gilboa a 1-0 victory over Hunter-Tannersville on Thursday in Delaware League boys soccer action.
After a 0-0 halftime score, Eddie Voorhees found Merwin for the game-winner.
"[A] tough loss, I thought we outplayed them for large portions of the game, but couldn't put one in," said Hunter-Tannersville coach Brent Dearing.
Hunter-Tannersville (2-1, 1-1) hosts Charlotte Valley today at 4:15 pm.
Despite the loss, Hunter out shot Gilboa 21-11 and Wildcats keeper Chris Lagzdins recorded nine saves.

Taconic Hills 1, Pine Plains 0
PINE PLAINS — Behind Amelia Canetto's goal in the first half, the Taconic Hills Lady Titans edged the Pine Plains Lady Bombers 1-0 on Thursday in MHAL field hockey action.
Kirsten Shumsky found Canetto with 17 seconds remaining in the first half for the game-winning goal.
"We played a very fast paced, intense game tonight, one of those nights where everything came together," said Taconic Hills coach Angela Webster. "Our defense did not allow Pine Plains in scoring position until the last minute of the game."
Taconic Hills out shot Pine Plains 17-0.
Taconic Hills improves to 2-2.
Hudson 3, Rensselaer 0
HUDSON — The Hudson Lady Bluehawks cruised past the Rensselaer Lady Rams 3-0 on Thursday in Patroon Conference volleyball action.
Hudson won by set scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-23.
"I thought we played great the first two games, but we got relaxed in the third set and Rennselaer had some good serves, but we got the win," said Hudson coach Chuck Peters.
Sarah Alvarez led the way for Hudson with 27 points (11 kills, 15 service points, 1 block), Nicole Conte added 12 points (8 kills, 4 service points), Danielle McDonald chipped in six points (1 kill, 6 service points), Mollie Keeler finished with four points (1 kill, 3 service points), Katie Jepsen added four points (3 kills, 1 service points, and Jaleen Torres finished with four points (1 kill, 3 service points).

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Lady Spartans blanked the Taconic Hills Lady Titans 3-0 on Thursday in Patroon Conference volleyball action.
Greenville won by set scores of 25-11, 25-23, and 25-9.
"We played well tonight, we are continuing to improve on our weaknesses and build on our strengths," said Greenville coach Lisa Johnson.
Chloe Cox led the way for Greenville with 14 assists and seven service points, Holly Feit had eight kills, two blocks, and 11 service points, Mackenzie Kennedy finished with 19 digs, and Lauren Rauf had 12 service points and 11 aces.

Maple Hill's John Russell shot a match-low 38—one-over par—to obtain his sixth sectional qualifying score of the year.
For Catskill, Ricky Edwards shot a team-low 56.
Maple Hill takes the course again on Monday versus Cairo-Durham at Blackhead Mountain Resort at 4 p.m.
