Bryant, Jones lead C-GCC hoops to victories

GREENPORT — Columbia-Greene Community College picked up a sweep of Schenectady County CC on Tuesday night with the men winning 75-66 and the women 73-52.

MEN

The Twins extended their winning streak to three straight to right the ship.

C-GCC pulled ahead 44-25 in the first half and held on for the victory despite being outscored 41-31 in the second stanza.

Rayquan Bryant led the way for C-GCC with a game-high 23 points to go with four rebounds and four assists. Matthew Smith added 16 points to the winning cause while Jahrice Ballard had 11, Jacorey Nixon nine and Bright Afful eight.

Raheem Felder led Schenectady with a team-high 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

After starting the season at 2-6, the Twins are now 5-6 on the season and head to Corning CC on Sunday for a 3 p.m. game.

WOMEN

Tanisha Edge and Selena Jones have become one of the best tandems in Region III women’s hoops this season. The duo once again led Columbia-Greene to victory on Tuesday night.

Jones picked up a game-high 20 points for the Lady Twins and pulled down four rebounds. Edge wasn’t far behind, scoring 19 points to go with her four rebounds, six assists, six steals and one block.

Columbia-Greene came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, pulling ahead 26-8 after one quarter of play. C-GCC held a halftime lead of 47-20 and picked up a 63-36 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Stacey Cherestal had 10 points for C-GCC while All’aha Albright added eight, Anyla Harper six, Amira Furtado five and Shayna Ostrowsky five. Ostrowsky also had three rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The win pushes the Lady Twins to 8-2 on the season. Next up is a showdown with Corning CC on Sunday at 1 p.m.
