To the editor:
We Democrats in the 19th Congressional District are excited about turning Congress blue this fall and restoring the balance of powers in government. Many of us, including me, want the unfettered powers of the executive branch properly to be held in check. Restraining the excesses of the Trump administration is only possible with a Congress not of the president’s party.
My choice is Brian Flynn, and I encourage other Democrats to examine his candidacy to see if he earns your support as he has mine. After hearing the candidates at the recent Hudson debate, reading and comparing the candidates’ positions and qualifications — including connections to the District — I think Brian Flynn has the most solid background and compelling message to represent the District in Washington and unseat John Faso this fall.
While several of the Democratic candidates have good messages, I think Brian Flynn rises slightly above. He is a business owner and environmental steward, which is an admirable combination. Brian is knowledgable about the issues, thoughtful, measured and well-spoken, and will make an effective representative of our district on important issues to our district and our country’s future.
Also importantly, Brian did not move to the district recently in order to run for the seat, which in my view was a weakness in the candidacies of Sean Eldridge and Zephyr Teachout in the last two Congressional elections. Brian is a third-generation Greene County resident. He has a good message and the qualifications to be an effective and strong voice for us in Washington this fall.
Check him out! And please vote in the primary June 26.
