CATSKILL -- Eighth grader Janay Brantley scored 29 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and handed out four assists to lead Catskill to a 55-27 victory over Coxsackie-Athens in Friday' Patroon Conference girls basketball game.

"Janay is such a team player I have to sometimes remind her that even though she's in eighth grade, I need her to be our lead scorer," Catskill coach Chris Quinn said. "At halftime of the Greenville game (Wednesday), I asked her to be a little selfish and she dropped 16 in the second half, which got us back into the game. Against Coxsackie, she played a complete game and just secures our defense. She went into her entire repertoire: 3-pointers , floaters, pull ups, finishing at the rim with both hands, all while being so unselfish. She gives up good shots to give her teammates great shots."

With Brantley leading the way, the Cats posted quarterly leads of 12-3, 22-7 and 41-21.

Ashley Shook followed Brantley in scoring for Catskill with eight points. Mary Kate Glass added seven.

"This was a nice victory for us, coming off a tough Greenville loss in which we battled back from 17 down," Quinn said. "It was nice to execute early and jump out to an early lead and continue to work hard throughout the game . We start two eighth graders, a freshmen and a sophomore, so we are very pleased when they get in to their rhythm early in a game."

Ryan Carroll had 11 points and Anya Josberger 10 for Coxsackie-Athens.
