Annual fall book sale to be held

September 11, 2018 11:26 am

CLAVERACK — The Claverack Free Library will hold its annual fall book sale Oct. 5, 6 and 7 at the library, 629 Route 23B, Claverack. Book lovers can browse a huge selection of gently used fiction and non-fiction titles, as well as children’s books, all sorted by subject beneath the tents. Proceeds from this sale, combined with the spring book sale, contribute nearly 10 percent to the library’s annual operating budget.

A preview reception, with refreshments, will be held 5-7 p.m. Oct. 5. For the $10 entry fee, buyers have first choice of all books offered at early-bird premium (double) pricing.

The sale runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday. On Saturday, shoppers can enjoy coffee and homemade baked specialties, as well as a lunch of soup and sandwiches and beverages. Home baked specialties and beverages will be offered throughout the day on Sunday.

Prices on Saturday and Sunday range from 50 cents for small paperbacks to $1 for hardcover and larger softcover books. Over-sized, art, travel, and other books of value are priced accordingly. Bargain hunters can return on Sunday and purchase large reusable Claverack Library tote bags for $15 and fill them with books for free (specially priced books excluded).

The Friends of the Claverack Library will be there with a membership booth and the library trustees will be on hand to give tours of the new Claverack Library and community center under construction next door.

Donations of clean used books will be accepted until Sept. 28 and volunteers are welcome to come help sort under the tent during the week prior to the sale. There are also volunteer sign-up sheets in the library for those who can help during the sale. Baked goods may be dropped off at the library on Oct. 5.
